Sorry, I failed to interpret it as intended. Every now and then I notice people specifically praising Escher Thuringians, hence my response.
I assume you mean the Badger & Blade thread. Indeed, a whole lot of nice stones there, although sometimes it seems some people hoard rather than collect. And then there are hypes. As far as coticules go, the layers being the most popular are the La Veinnette and Les Latneuses. I don't quite know why (although apparently the La Veinnette layer is rather homogenous), as I haven't noticed them performing in any way better than other coticules, just differently. Incidentally, the one I had most troubles with was a select La Veinnette. It was also my first coticule
People have different experiences, though. But based on my own experiences and those of others who've had the opportunity to try a lot of different coticules (such as Bart Torfs, who has probably tried more coticules than I've had sandwiches), I am convinced that differences in coticules depend much more on how they are used and by whom than on the specific coticule or the layer it is from.
Finishing is often overestimated. In sharpening a razor, everything you do before the finish makes up 99% of the end result. The finish is, literally, just the finishing touch. Also, if you just finish on water on a coticule you don't really add any significant sharpness. You rather add smoothness, or 'that coticule kinda feel'. Judging the potential keenness that can be reached on a specific coticule by using it with water only is like judging how well someone can swim by watching them run the 100 metre dash.Last edited by Pithor; 04-09-2015 at 02:41 PM.

I have la veinette and la grise. While my veinette seems to provide a slightly better HHT at the finishing stage, after stropping I cannot tell the edges appart both by the hht and the quality of the shave.
