    Scottish Stones Part 1
    Tam o Shanter

Been Quarried in Stair near the River Ayr by the Tam o Shanter Honeworks these stones have als been named "Snakestones" due to their interesting look and pattern. Actually to a certain time the name was changes to what we today know as a Tam o Shanter stone.

You can see the differences within the pictures, the normal Tos is quite coarser then the white variant. The Tos is around 6-8k the white one comes up to 10k...all stones could used with a thin oil concerning the instructions of the quarry owners...up to date mine only have seen water..

    Stones from Wales Part 1
    Llyn Idwal (Novaculite of Kirwan)

The stones come from the area around Llyn Ogwen, its a Novaculite type stone. The stones are somehow interesting because as beeing used with a thicker slurry created with a DMT they work quite fast and comparable in the feeling to the Frankonian Bavarian Stones.

They are mostly in a lower gritrange 6-7k but there are really finer examples out....

    This time some unusual stones....

The first one is one of the mystic french stones, only found one of my french friends owning one of those stones. A very smooth surface, but inside the structure it seems to have smaller and bigger particles with different colors....all this in the mixture brings up this nice swirled stone where i actually do not know what it is. Got some great shaving results with it...

It seems to be finer then the thuringian Stones on certain areas, the areas which are mixed up seem to have bigger particles...

    Hirlau and Botanic like this.

A Piece of Slate more tending into mud slate / shale. Got it from MichaelP for testing...

It can be used in a Pre-Finish Area from 6-8k...so nothing too special but its a very nice looking piece...

So what is your personal Thinking on the comparison to the BBW you showed on the picture ?

Just from an optical point of view it looks like the Goldfish particles are finer, bzt beeing the same material, can you confirm this for your stones?

There is a difference in work between them.

Yes, if i haven't made a mistake with scale photo, goldfisch looks finer.
Actually - I don't know is it true or not. And I don't think that this photo is a good one to make a decision - it's just a good-lookin picture.

Goldfisch suspension works roughly. And fish is softier - it's hard for me to get a good result on knife.
This bbw is a quite dense one. In the average it works finer.
I can only see that they aren't similiar in work.
    And I've never seen this

    on bbw.
    Or this lines

    Or this dark spots

I don't know what to think. I'm not a geologist: they look a bit different for me.
I've met enough stones that look just a little bit different but there was a big difference in work. Not everything, that has yellow color and shines, is gold. Not every green hone is jasper.
And I've lost my HAD - so it doesn't matter for me.
