    Naniwa Professional Stone (New Chosera)

    A+

Not the cheapest but worth the price..... Under $90.

Is it over there or over yonder?

I know the general accepted winner of the 1k championship is the Chosera 1k. That's what I use currently but I will tell you that a Naniwai super stone 1k is not much different. I set many a bevel on my SS and I have no complaints. In fact, if I knew the difference was so limited, I might have held off on the purchase of the Chosera. If price is of a concern, don't be afraid of the SS option.

I started out with a King combo I picked up at the local wood shop store. Served me well and would still be using it exclusively but, curiosity and available funds led me down several other streets. Norton 1k used to be the standard to compare all 1k stones but moving their production to Mexico has resulted in some not so sweet reviews by a few. Naniwa has several flavors from the average 1k to the top of the line aimed at pros. The thing is they will all do the job. The pro models definitely stand out but will cost you more. And if you don't plan on honing more than your own you don't really need them. There are others out there but these are the most popular with the best results.

    Donboblo,

+1 on the Naniwa 1k SuperStone.

For non-professional, amateur users like me, it is perfect : I have felt no need to upgrade to a Chosera or the new 'Professional' stones

    Have fun

    Best regards

I do consider there to be a functional difference between the two Naniwas. Using the older terms, the SuperStone loads up much more rapidly and needs to be refreshed more often in comparison to the Chosera.

The Chosera tends to be faster. I presume that this is because it tends to self slurry, thereby constantly refreshing itself to expose a fresh cutting surface along with the cutting slurry.

Most all who hone for very long migrate towards the Chosera 1K, no it's not cheap....but it is the best in most veteran honers eyes.

I beg of you, learn to shave first. If you have that down, learn to touch up a razor for a while. This teaches you pressure. Then, after you have that down, learn to hone.

Think about it: If you can't shave, you don't know if you have a shave ready razor in your hands or not. If you can't touch up a razor, you will never learn to set a bevel. Get where I am going here? Lets teach you to crawl, walk, then run. We can help you every step of the way & with the least amount of frustrations.

I originally started with a King 1K, but wish I just bought the Chosera off the bat. You will not be disappointed if you purchase this stone. The king works, but the Chosera works much easier at the task at hand.
I am very appreciative of all the knowledge and sharing each and everyone has provided me with. Look forward to future endeavors with many of you.

Tried the Norton the Superstone, DMT 1200 and th King. My bevel setter of choice is the Chosera 1k. Worth the higher priice. Btw, the dmt was a great performer too

I started honing using a 1K Naniwa Super Stone. I replaced it with another 1K Naniwa Super Stone after reading up on the 1K Chosera and coming to the conclusion that for me it was not worth the extra money as I only do my own razors. I'll get there, a bit slower maybe, but I'll still get there.
