I've read about the transparent and the black arki's - are these finishers?

Phrank I'm no expert but Dave tells me they need to be lapped if not flat and then broken in before they become finishers. Once that's done they are excellent. Only what I've heard I'm going to try it when it arrives.

Thanks - be interesting to hear the results, makes me wonder, if I took three of the same razors, finished one on an Escher, one on a Coti, and one on an Arki - could you tell the difference, and if you could, would the differences be very noticable. I've read about the edges, would like to try it...would be interesting.

We need 3 identical razors and we could test this out although I do not own an Escher.. I could provide the other 2 stones if need be.

That would be a great experiment Phrank. Also something I'd love to try.

Then all we'd need would be a highly skilled honemaster, as I fall into the category of uber-Noob as far as honing is concerned....

I've got the Escher - worth arranging and would be fun....

I have 3 Bokers that are identical we could use. Just need to get them into scales.

Im with phrank I'm a noob too when it comes to honing. My edges will shave smoothly but not 100% of the time. I'm not the one who's edges should be compared for this test either. Once my hard black comes in I've got to get it razor prepared before we can do this test.

I'm not a super skilled honer, but I'm sure I can get the edges on the razors. I have a very nice Coti we can use. I should be able to find some basic scales to get these boys into shaving shape too

    Wink

The answer is "yes" kind of sort of.

SOME people can feel the difference. I know I can. and the edge off the three stones mentioned will be rather noticeable to me.

There is some learning curve to the Arks if all you have used is one of the other stones. Of course, it works the same way if all you have ever used is an Ark!

For the ultimate Ark finished razor, your stone must be fully prepped. If its not glossy like glass, its not ready yet.

Have fun playing around with them. This is the sort of thing I love doing.
