I got this Coticule in trade for my razor blade but I don't know what type is. Can you please help me?
Also want to know is it other (grey) side of stone for use or just for stand. Thanks in advance!

Thanked: 169Back is slate. It's not useful honing material. It's an Ardennes stone so ask Ardennes.

Thanked: 3795Hone a few razors with it. That way you can identify its type as fast or slow, fine or coarse, and great or good.
It's a coticule, so experiment and have fun with it.

Yes, all my Belgian's are BBW backed and have the purplish slurry.
Check out this for help with ID. http://bosq.home.xs4all.nl/info%2020...whetstones.pdf Henk Bos's excellent work on Belgian hones.
It looks like it may be La Grise or maybe La Grosse Jeune.
Enjoy the hone!
