Thanked: 3Stone identification
I just receive some old hones from a friend...his grandpa and his neighbours used this ones long time ago...i have an ideea what this are, but i need your help gents to find out what kind of stones they really are.
This is the first one...i guess is a thuringian...
The second i guess is some kind of russian one.there are two...one smaller and one bigger...
And this one i guess is a belgian coticule...very small ...but really nice one
Anyone could give me some info about this hones? Thanks a lot gentlemen.

The first one looks like a natural one...looks like a type of slate....
the second one looks synthethic...
The third one could be a aluminumoxide synthethic...probably a arkansas....
its for sure not a coticule...███▓▒░░.RAZORLOVESTONES.░░▒▓███

Thanked: 3215Yea, probably. Clean them up, lap and chamfer the edges.
See if the first one will slurry easily.
What size are they?
Worst case the last 2 may be bevel setters or good knife stones, they do look like synthetics.

Slurry really looks like it could be a Thuringian Stone...

Thanked: 3215That would be an interesting slurry, but the BBW may be too course of a grit and negate the Thüringen’s finishing capabilities.
I would use a 1k Diamond plate or a hard Ark. I have a small translucent slip that makes nice slurry, without imparting the Ark slurry.
A credit card diamond plate is not expensive, a 6in is easier to use.

Thanked: 3Next time i won't use slurry on this stone...i have a bbw wich i use it with slurry and then i'll pass it on this one as a final. Maybe i'll use some soap to make it smoother.
