I used to be interested in all sorts of hones, and straight razors. Now I've had enough (and have enough) of both. It's a shame, but I'm starting to find razors and hones ... boring & ... just tools.
Yes it does! And I'm afraid of what I'm going to get exited about next. I hope it's not automatic watches or something ridiculously expensive like that.
I have no interest in natural hones. For now.
I have a naniwa set up and finish on a gok 20. This gets the job done very well with any razor I care to hone. No fuss, no trial and error just predictable results. This is great for me as I work a long week and have a young family. When I have more time on my hands I think it would be nice to have a few naturals to play with.
I sold my Arkansas hones, don't think I'll ever use one.
BTW I loved their cedar boxes!
There was a time when I bought hones left, right, and centre. Then I met someone who showed me how to use one hone for everything. Ever since, I have got rid of all hones but one. Well, two. I have kept a 1k hone for sentimental reasons, but I was never good at restoring stuff. Every other hone, no thanks. If you know how to use one properly, that is all you will ever need. Unless you hone for money, in which case efficiency (ie synthetics), and a unique selling proposition (ie "honed on a progression of ridiculously priced natural hones from $FOREIGNCOUNTRY) will make commercial sense.
If I found a Norton barber hone at the flea market I'd pick it up but as far as Paying what they fetch I'd rather just use an original Swaty 3-line
The People's Stone of Infinite Grit.
