These are the hones I keep in my room at work the larger one is a barber hone the other 2 are the slates that aj sells on ebay, from England somewhere, Wales I think. His ones come in a few sizes, mine are the smaller ones, they are finished on both sides. So I don't think it is one of his. The middle one is coarser than the outside one, the middle one is a purpley grey colour and the other one is a brownish colour.Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

Thanked: 2284I'm going to say it's a slate hone, in the 5-6k range. I say this because I have just that, and this looks very similar. I found mine in wild, and haven't put it into any of my honing progressions. Even at 5-6k, it's a slow cutter. That being said, I hope it's not that, a you end up with a nice finisher. Fingers crossed!

This might be a clue to the stone, possibly not a good one in terms of a finisher:
Here are two pics of the wood box...actually a nifty box, might be done with a very sharp chisel, by a woodworker...anyway
I'm hoping if this stone was used with oil, the wood would be considerably more stained at the ends. So fingers crossed on that one also...

I hope it works out to be a good one. I took a chance a long while back on one which was totally gray/black as I received it.
I have been leery of those in the old, wooden boxes ever since. Still a good knife hone, however!

I rest my case.

Thanked: 32I'm the member here he's speaking of, but there is NO collusion between me and that guy. I've never spoken to the guy and the only dealing I've ever had with him with selling him that stone, which I made no illusion of being a thuri or any other type of stone for that matter. I listed it as a vintage hone.
Some of these guys crack me up. I saw a B-hone listed a while back as a "Vintage razor hone Escher thuringian Coticule"? Lol

I checked for saw marks, which it has...still doesn't say much. I seem to have this ability to find odd stuff...I wonder why?
As you know Tom, the last few times into the Bazaar I have been kneecapped. I might be on a roll. It might take a new wooden box to get over an old wooden boxLast edited by WW243; 12-05-2015 at 05:30 PM.

With brown he probably mentioned purplish, they look brown then and on pictures they look Grey.
I have old fine UK stones like that, with some Green impulses on a few of the stones.
Good stones but I hope you didn't pay to much
