I have the Shapton Stone Holder. It's on the pricy side but it is wonderful. Heavy plate glass and rubber. It's one of those things you don't think you need until you use it and then you wonder how you got along without it.

My order from SRD came today (fast!). I have one Naniwa and one Steelex holder. They are great! Should have done this earlier. The Naniwa holds my SS 2k great (I got as a late XMAS gift - thought the jump from Norton 1k to 4K was a bit much for me). The Steelex holds the Norton and the DMT plate perfectly (which has rubber feet and won't work on the Naniwa, as-is).
Very happy with both, and appreciate the suggestions. This is working out well!Regards,

Thanked: 3795Years ago when Lynn first told me how awesome the Naniwa SuperStones were, I decided that I really wanted them. I have always been a fan of small grit jumps when honing, just like when sanding, so I wanted the entire set. I could not buy all of them from a single source so I ended up buying them from two different places; but the set still was incomplete. The hone that I really wanted to follow the 1k hone was the 2k hone, which I could not find anywhere. I knew that it existed, but I could not find a place to buy it other than in Japan and my kanji reading skills remain poor (non-existent). Eventually I bought my Japanese hone from a German site!
Anyway, my point...
You definitely will like the 2k. It is a great hone and will serve you very well in transitioning between the 1k and 4k. Also, I like your exploratory decision to buy one of each of the holders. Until Lynn chimed in I had no idea that there was any appreciable difference between the holders, so I'm grateful that I learned something new from your inquiry.

Just from playing with it today a bit, it was very nice (in my inexperienced opinion).
The Naniwa is much shallower than the Steelex, and I'm glad I was able to change my order to get one of each (kudos to SRD - they were great).Regards,
