I use the exact same one! It will hold most any size stone, I have a mix of Norton, Naniwa, and King stones along with my dmt flatteners and it hold them all well.

Thanked: 3215I have two, but only use one. For lapping I hold both stone in my hands under running water or dunked in a plastic shoe box in the sink.
I set the same Steelex holder, on a plastic tray (Fast Food size, from thrift store) to catch the water and slurry.
I don’t bother to tighten the holder on the stone, leave about a ¼ in from the stone end and just switch out the stones, they don’t move. I often stack stones, one in the holder, a 3X8 in piece of drawer liner and another stone on top, works great for smaller naturals or a diamond plate for corrective work.
I have a bunch of 3X8 pieces of rubber Drawer liner cut and use them for storing my stones to protect them from banging each other. Cut them with a paper cutter.
Before we moved, I used a pine board over the sink with a piece of rubber drawer liner as a sink bridge, worked great, if your sink is the right height.

Once upon a time made under the different widths of stones, but not always apply. Often I hold the stones in their hands.

Thanked: 4942The Naniwa Stone holder is shallower to accommodate the thinner stones. For thicker stones the Steelex is fine, but for the Naniwa Selective stones the Naniwa holder will leave the stone exposed longer as you continue to use it. I normally get around 2500 razors honed depending on the Naniwa stone I am using. Sometimes more for the stones that get less work like the 12K which I only use for finishing and refreshing. Obviously, the Naniwa holder will work on the thicker stones too.
Have fun.

I use the Naniwa holder and I have no complaints. I use it with Naniwas, Nortons and DMTs.
