The edge appears to be micro chipping, could be the stone or the razor, it does have some bad pitting.

Would like to see the finished edge. Perhaps need to be finished on a good synthetic 12k then the Vermio.

If it is a new Welsh Slate, it is not 12k.

I still learning this stone. And I like him a lot.
Welsh slate is new one - not mine but was sold as 12k. For me it looks like 8k instead 12k.

    I don't have final photo.

But I will take photos next time i hone razor.

    Here are some microscopic pictures of an edge from a quality razor, a friend has send me after I asked him to (I'm not sure if he wants me to mention his name);

The above picture is the edge from a chocera,

This one if from a very fine coticule but the light or magnification appears a bit different,

The above is from the Vermio stone on water, and the below if from the stone with oil.

Some microchipping appears on all stones when the edge is not stropped (the above aren't), so, if you don't want to see it, strop your razor and then check the edge. This way, I think is a better indicator of real microchipping.

+1 to this, I spent a stupid amount of time trying to remove some "microchipping" and gave up. Stropped the razor, shaved then stropped again to check under a microscope. All was gone. I think it is quite important to realize that sometimes absolutely perfect edges off directly of off certain stones is just unobtainable or so much more work with little added benefit.

    Hey Vasilis,

USB microscopes are not the best way to see the impressions profile that particular stone leave on the razors, for many reasons especially lighting and bunch of others, that I don't have the time nor the energy to list here....

Last time we talked I mentioned that I have bought a new metallurgy microscope, it is the reason that I am broke maybe for the rest of 2016.....

Anyway, I got a 20x APO objective lens with it which is the best for photography, as it show the most realistic colors and bunch of other things

Here is the microscope I was talking about

    Here is the honing session

And finally here are the pictures, fresh of the stone no stropping

    Nice pitting

The edge is very smooth, although it is very hard steel, still no chips and that is very consistent with what I was getting from the stone since last July with all the razors I tested on it.

And this one is for Sebastian, a magnification of the Vermio surface

    Name: IMG_20160319_023043.jpg
Views: 493

The objective is 20x eyepiece 16x, total magnification is 320x for all the images.

Sorry for the poor quality of the pictures as I took them by sticking my phone to the eyepiece very difficult to focus and impractical. I hope I can save some money for a good quality camera within the next 10 months.

Anyway I hope you guys enjoy the pictures and the video.

PS. I am no imagining expert nor I know nothing about microphotography... I just started reading on the subject.
