Any capable natural hone that I've used for a couple of years to really learn how to get the most out of it.

Because a good vintage linen really keeps the edge of a razor nice. I just need a stone to keep the bevel trimmed back to keep that edge from getting too fat.

Vintage Welsh or Scottish hones are high on my list as I've had vintage ones

My 'holy grail' was the yellow/green escher, and I've got one. Next I guess would be, in terms of value, (usefulness) the Suehiro Gokumyo 20k. OTOH, if you don't have at least a Norton 4/8, or the equivalent, those are just paperweights.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Agreed - I'm positive one of my Eschers is either just Y or Y/G, and I've been toying with the S20 for awhile now...but from 20 back to finish on an Escher seems to far a jump back...thinking it would be pointless to go for the 20k stone...

Yes, it would be one or the other. But having both isn't a bad thing.

If you are looking for consistency and speed, the 20k is your hone. If you are looking for fun with naturals, Eschers and Jnats especially should have place in your collection.

No Jnats yet. I have a few coticules and a Pierre De La rouge (not the coticule) coming in the mail. I have an Escher and a Thuringian that do a nice job. The naturals just seem to appeal to me and they are fun to play with.
