Thanked: 2yes/no, saw 1 micron sheets being used, since the shop was placing an order I added my sheets to the list
McMaster-Carr
they are 3" x 8" in one micron (my granite stone is 4" x 8") and at $3.30 for a pack of five I am not out much if I confused the micron, I do see many using .5 or .3 to finish but those sadly are not available. since the order is with the shop supplies my shipping is free.
here is where I got the info
Using micro abrasive film - Straight Razor Place Library
Step 8
I gave it 20 more strokes on the 1 micron, and now the TPT tells me this is a shaving edge. So I move upstairs for a shave test.
Note: The stroke totals were 54 on the 5 micron and 125 on the 1 micron with the whole process from start to finish taking less than an hour and most of that being spent making notes and testing the edge. Very little actual time was spent scraping the razor up and down the hone.

Thanked: 2thanks for the chart
so 1 micron is between 12-15k grit (shapton stones); about 12k grit on (Norton stones)
3 micron is about 8k grit on Norton
cool, NOW if the bevel is set, can I just get away with the 1 micron sheets? should I get .5 micron? will 3 micron be used to set a bevel if needed? glad my options with McCarr are pretty decent, I will need another source for the .5 micron.
