I'm just letting you know with your stones it's doable to get a shave ready razor. Why haven't you gotten a synthetic stone like a Norton 4/8k? Just out of curiosity?

Thanked: 0that post did seem somewhat defensive, meant to be matter of fact my bad. i just started working on the stones/razor in the last week or two and funds are somewhat tight due to baby being born in August so it may be awhile before i get some "NEW" stones unfortunately.

Thanked: 0Is their a place that offers a good price on the Norton 4-8k stones? Im looking through and it was kind of tough to set a bevel on the Washita, its seems to be a much harder stone.

Setting a bevel on a Washita requires a little pressure and I like to use honing oil. If your stone is already clogged with swarf, you may want to clean up the surface a little. That really helps mine to cut quicker.

Thanked: 246If you want to set bevels with the Washita you'll need to keep it in fighting shape - it will need to be freshly flattened/scuffed to cut with any decent speed. A sheet of fresh 320 grit wet/dry or SiC loose grit over a piece of granite tile works great for this.
