    Actually there are many possibilities around which do go from classical natural sealing with shellac or Urushi Laquer (mostly done on Jnats)...i prefer synthethic clear coating.

    I use a clear coating (Hobby Line Acrylic Clear Coating) which is UV stable....

    I also used Dupli Color Clear Coating on some of my stones which till now works well...

    I use rust-oleum crystal clear enamel from the hardware store. 3-4$. Tape off anywhere on stone you don't want the spray to get to with painters tape. I also use a spray handle on the can which makes it like a spray gun. It cost a couple bucks at the hardware store too and just clips on. That way you can get a good even spray. Quick light swinging sprays. Just do a few thin coats and let dry in between. Go light with each spray or it will run and you can always add more.
