Once I had the chain on my moped come off, and I had to put it back on the side of the road with my bare hands which were dirtier than they'd ever been with the black greasy swarf form the chain. I ring the doorbell on the house closest to me, an elderly woman opens and I ask if I could wash my hands.
She told me ok, but first take a sliver of butter, melt it in your hands and rub it in. I thought it was very strange but I figured at least I get to wash my hands so whatever. But the butter dissolved all the swarf and when I washed my hands with water and soap, they were absolutely squeaky clean.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Hirlau, that is exactly what is going on with mine. Guess I'll have to get me a nagura, cause I definitely don't want that stain on my Shobu-dani.
I can lap my synthetics and it goes away, but I don't know whether that "whatever it is" will interfere with the slurry off the Shobu, or off of a colticule. I'm new to both, and don't need another variable I can't account for during the learning process. Got enough of that already.
Thanks to everyone who resonded. I very much appreciate all of your help.Mike

Thanked: 481That is some incredibly determined oil residue. I figured a simple green soak like I gave my Arkies woulda fixed the issue. Tossed 'em in a bucket mixed heavy on the SG and let 'em soak a few days before even considering removing them. Not sure if that would help this problem any though. Purple Power or a good steam cleaning maybe?

Marshal, thanks. It is soaking in SG as we "speak". Hope that will do the trick, but won't know for a bit.

Soak in SG did not do the trick. Am trying the oven cleaner now. If that doesn't work, I'll try a longer soak, 24 hours or more, in Simple Green. I will post back to this thread if I find a solution.
