Hmmmm
Okay
First off the Shapton Pros are super fast cutters so if those are not "Fast Enough" it is the driver not the car
Bevel set
When it comes to speed Bevel setting is where so much conjecture lays
People often ask "How long does it take to hone a razor"
If you go back through years and years of answers mine always starts the same "After the bevel set, it takes"
This is also where the Conjecture about Livi's vid goes off into left field, Seriously you have to be some kind of inexperienced to think that you are going to take a 130 YO W&B with odd ball hone wear and stick it on a 3k and set the bevel like Livi does his Perfectly Newly ground razor you are simply deluding yourself
New razors vs Restoration razors are two different animals
So back to the caveat "Once the bevel is set" is really doesn't take much time at all, see that is the actual qualifier..
To quote a stupid commercial
It is not how fast you "Hone" it is how well you "Hone" fast

Thanked: 433Preliminary pre shave test results:
The razor needed a complete bevel reset: 10 mins on dmt to get it to cut hair, (Coticule) 70 1/2 x-strokes followed by 30 x-strokes with heavy slurry then 100 x-strokes plain water with rinsing half way through very light pressure (10 mins on Coticule) then 25 x-strokes CrOx paddle then stropped it passes my non shave tests.
The bevel visually isn't anywhere as mirrored as my usual king/Norton/PHIG progression but better than I thought it would be but still looks rough
Quick Shave test: I shaved last night so not a real good test bed to work with: It seemed to work well, I'm not sure whether to attribute this to the progression or the fact I've honed 500 razors. I'll know more when I can test for realLast edited by rodb; 07-08-2016 at 07:05 PM.

Ya that Tom is trying to get me busted cheating on my Stolen rocks from you Ron, by the way. Retired my DMT c and Coticule after the mystical stone, sometimes all I have to do is just set the rock on the table and the razors are honed! By the way Tom how much to recharge this puppy? Tc

Thanked: 46Any news on the new experiment? Having honed 500 razors sure as hell works, I remember messing up my first razor with a dmt c after that I did things carefully and it wasn't until waaaaay later I decided to try the dmt c again. At least someone is having fun and trying new things rather than just saying no.

Thanked: 2591Just for the fun of it I'll do Mamorael's progression. I'll use Atoma 400 as it is a lot faster than the 320 DMT I have (very worn out).
I'll post how it compares to the other progression I have used to hone a GD
I am sure the edges will not be comparable . I'll be posting pics of the progress.Stefan
