Rocks don't react to wet/dry like that with few exceptions . Something like bentonite which is clay and absorbs water and swells but it's not a rock. If a rock is badly rotted (weathered) it can do that but not a fresh piece.

Yes that doesn't sound right. I would see if you could return it to the seller. Sounds like a useless coti you wouldn't want to use as a finisher.

Buying on ebay you win some and you lose some.. I tend to steer clear of it.

Was that coti from the UK? I think I saw that on there.

The horizontal are scratches from me using the diamond plate on it I stopped when it got soft as butter so it didn't get smoothed out that's what you're seeing. Yes it was from the Uk, I'm going to email the seller an see if there's anything we can do as it is a complete piece of Sh!t to see what we can do about it,it is as advertised because I do believe it's a coti just a really messed up one.

I'm not sure anything can be done as he didn't try to deceive you. He probably didn't try honing with it to be fair to him.

Hopefully it didn't cost too much. Live and learn. I'm sure your next coticule will be awesome.

It cost me about 45$ which isn't bad but it's more than I'd like to flush down the toilet.

Just use a bit of Smiths Honing Solution instead of water & see how that works. The Smith's won't harm the stone.
