For our purposes, I wouldn't trust the vendors assessment unless he shaves with a straight and has tried them VS the Norton and Naniwa stones. Dealing in stones is one thing, using them another, and using them for straight razors yet another category. There's a very interesting line between keen enough to cut hair easily and comfortably, and keen yet harsh. The best way I've seen to describe it is some stones leave a comfortable edge that only wants to cut hair, others leave an edge that wants to filet your face and will leave you feeling raw.

If you're new to razor honing, my advice is use what others use. Not only are they proven performers, but if you've got Norton, Naniwa, Shapton, or Kings I guarantee there's someone on this site - maybe even right next door - using them that can help if you sort it out if you run into an issue.

Well Naniwa 12 k is cheaper stone than this one .
The very consistent and fine grained hones are not so prefer for knifes , as they kill the sharpness a bit .
Those stones have a bit inconsistent grit , as the serrations on the knife blade is more irreular at this stage of polishing .
The diference between the 12 K good stone for razors and the 10 or 12 K from knife hone is that the edge from the knife hone , have some bigger serations between the real 12 k and this makes the cutting very easy It work as a micro saw
The perfectly polished edge is less sharp as the saw effect isnt there .
For example i sharpen my kitchenknifes and cleavers with a 600 grit had oilstone It mke the edge like the 800 grit japanese watter stone I realy preffer this edge , before the 6 k or 8 k edge
    Marshal likes this.
