    Default Tomo Nagura

So is it true that a Tomo is made from the same material as the finish stone your using? Or is it a different stone completely?

Tomomgaura is a broad term , it can be a piece of the base stone or any other stone that is not from the Nagura mines.
Usually tomonagura are softer than the base stone, but very fine. The slurry is worked between the bevel and the base stone breaking down and refining the scratch pattern.

And then stones that are from the Nagura mines you use on relatively hard finishing stones.

My finish stone is what i planned on using with the Nagura stones but without a Tomo i was going to work up a slurry with a fine diamond plate on the finish stone and call that Tomo. So am i close, of base or just wrong? My finish stone is a Shoubudani.

Thank you for conferming. I hope to buy a higher quality finishing stone in the future but i still need to get comfortable with honning before i spend any more money on stones. Send me your mailing address by PM and I'll cut off a piece of what I use for tomo nagura and send it to you. I got it from Maksim at JNS and it works very well on all of my Jnats.

Exactly, and if you were to demonstrate the differences between good and bad stones by shaving her legs with them I'm sure she would immediately allocate you the proper funds for a proper rock......lol!

Mainly , the people use hard stone with softer tono , or softer stone with hard tomo , for raising almost pure slurry from the toishi - the base stone
Aways keep in mind , that in the right , upper corner , there is a field that is Advanced search When you whrite Tomo nagura there - you will have 10 pages of thousents opinions , pictures and information
