Thread: I need a stone identified.

I picked this up in an okay box that had a leather strop glued on the top. I looked underneath and saw this nice white color and hoped I was picking up a washita based on the speckling/pores. I cleaned off the oil and lapped it nice and flat. (Lapped kinda quickly, ie. couple hours, with some 120 grit sandpaper on glass so wasn't sure what that clue means).
Here's a pic.

I measured the dimensions and weighed it as 48.69 mm by 28.44 mm by 201 mm and 555 g. So, its 1.99 g/cm^3.
My question is did I luck out with a washita or get a soft arkie?

Clean it up a bit & post another picture please. Almost looks like a Coti.!

Hi Slawman, that is cleaned up. Or did you mean my benchtop? I ran my knife over it a couple of laps to test feedback, but that was dry and only left a little bit of graying.
It was almost black with oil when I got it.

Washita or soft ark. The two are very close and hard to distinguish between.

Same. Density checks out good for Washita too. Should be fairly fast, it's at the lower end of the density spectrum.

Based on the looks, it looks to me to be a washita and based on the density it would be a washita also. If it was the original box that sounds like a washita too.

Thanks everybody. Not sure it was the original box. Definitely no paperwork or labeling. It was pretty quick on the knife after lapping. I guess I'll learn more as I use it. I got it for sharpening my tools in the shop as I like the harder stones for that work. Though I like the edges I get off my Arkies for razors too and I like the sharpening process as its meditative to me. Helps that I'm only doing my personal stuff and not sharpening professionally or at large volume.
