My new Chosera 1k shows some crazing after drying, but then I wet it again for a honing session and it is glass smooth, so I'm not worried about it for now.

This guy has had the problem with the pro stones cracking.
How are your pro stones Ron, crazy or craze...less?

For that money, I wouldn't accept anything less than first quality.

I think I know how you feel, because I'm in the same boat, and I know how I feel. At least you've had it happen quick enough to get some satisfaction from your seller. My only hope is that the crazing doesn't get worse. I'm reassured somewhat by Dylan's Chosera 1k still being useful, in spite of the crazing he experienced years ago. Six years ago to be precise ;

My 8k SS looked great when I first got it but a crack showed up the first time I used it. I think the crack was already there but it wasn't visible until some particles filled it in. It's been a few years now and the crack hasn't changed at all. I think it's a result of the curing process during manufacturing. It's just a cosmetic issue and doesn't affect the honing process at all.

Hmm interesting... you guys are slowly giving me more faith. I want to keep the pro stones. I just don't want to have to buy new ones come a year later.

I've had my 5k, 8k and 12k naniwa ss for 10ish months. The 5 and 8 are fine, the the 12k has some longitudinal cracks. I would take a picture, but are hard to see. No issues whatsoever. Since I take care of the 12k the best (consistent use, least amount of water and am always gentle) and near abusive to the others (mixed rapid and slow drying, lightly dampening and heavy soaking), my conclusion is it is most likely small inconsistencies in the binders.

Dinnermint, thank you for sharing. These stories are welcomed. I have heard the binder in the pro is more fragile than the resin based super stones.
Still I've now seen even the super stones can crack.
