Both of my labeled examples have some amount of sparkle also - very small and fine, but it's there. They are not Thuri-level finishers for me, but they can get close enough to give a very good shave if they are used right. They're much harder than the average Thuri, so surface condition plays a bit bigger role. I like to wear mine in with a chisel a bit sort of like when prepping an Ark then finish with oil for the most comfortable edges.

Most of the guys that used these back in their heyday (these were military issue for British for some time) would probably never have done much flattening/lapping, so the surface would be very smooth, which does impart a more comfortable edge with this stone in my experience.

I did give it a run but didn't get to test it yet. The edge appears to be decent, not anything to exciting imo but I've had some edges surprise me though. I can't wait to get home and lather up! Either way I'm happy with this stone and I will find somewhere to fit it in as I'm working on a full set of natural progression (bevel-finish) and I'm not gonna B.S. I have H.A.D. Bad LOL.
