Thanked: 0Ok so after researching this a bit I purchased the recommended 1k naniwa as well as 3k 8k 12k a holder and a ATM75-4E ATOMA 400k for lapping them flat. If I am understanding this right this is all I will need to sharpen my razors. I received the 12k and holder today but the 1/3/8 k stones and the lapping plate will take month from japan. I guess that is alright as the strops I ordered will take a while from japan also. So I will continue using my replaceable blade razors for know.

Thanked: 0I purchased a llama brand kanoyama shell strop in 50000 and 80000 from my research shell cordovan is the best material for a strop. The only other cordovan strop I could find was a bison brand or westholm strop. I Also got some Vintage strops I would highly recommend AFrames Tokyo as he let me order the strops even though he himself still has them on order.

He's a good guy and reliable seller. You will not be disappointed with the strops.

Thanked: 481You didn't. Naniwa recently changed what their stones were called. The Super Stones became 'Sharpening Stones' and Chosera series became 'Professional Series.' This has caused a lot of confusion because people are still using the old names for their lines, but the Sharpening Stone is the correct one.

What Mashal said -- the old Super Stones came permanently mounted to plastic bases with rubber feet. Some marketing guy thought it would be great to introduce confusion by renaming their product line.

Thanked: 104Both those Kanayama strops are excellent. Note though, that the #50000 is a two piece strop, the #80000 is a three piece, which incorporates the suede piece. I'm an absolute fanatic when it come to strops, and the Kanayama's are the best there is IMHO. If you wanted to effectively turn your #50000 into an #80000 all you need is to buy a separate suede piece. Aframestokyo sell the suede piece on its own for $40. Good honing. Bob

Thanked: 104I have a full set (2,3,5,8,10k) in the old superstore category on stands. I got them a year ago, and I got the 20mm version. As stated they are in essence identical to what you have bought, just re-badged. So enjoy with confidence.
