    Question Synthetic progression end result?

Do different brand synthetic stones leave better or worse edges in comparison to each other up to 8k?

For Example only: Shapton glass stones leave crisp edges whereas Naniwa SS stones leave a smoother edge is this true or false?

Please, I am not a beginner! I have yet to try other brands that is why I am asking...

Currently I am using a Chosera 1k for bevels and Shapton glass 4k, 8k for middle work with various finishing stones.

Is the grass greener on the other side??? Lol!

    Thanks

Not trying to start anything just looking for the experiences of others. I am really looking into whether I should stick with what am currently or have fun adding another brand or type of stone the hobby.

Didn't mean anything by the smart reply. I was sincere about watching the thread (always love to hear all the different views).
I can just see this turning into a "tape vs no tape" type thread. I really enjoy reading those too!

No worries, I just don't to give off the vibe I was starting anything lol. I would like to add a couple more middle and pre finish stones.

I am in a similar position, I have a Norton 4/8 that I am happy with the shave from, however the 4K side is nearing the end of its service life. So I too would like to hear from people that have multiple synthetic mid range hones and their impression of how they perform. However I have Naniwa 10 & 12K hones that fall afterwards, in sometimesnaturals on the finish instead. So from my perspective I am wondering more about performance that the feel of the blade. I think I am posed ready for Naniwa hones but could easily be convinced otherwise.

I have said it before I'll say it again, I love my kuromaku hones by Shapton. 1k, 2k, 5k, 8k. The jump from 2k to 5k is not a big deal. Get a nice polish on the 5k and it just improves on the 8k.
I like them in comparison to the Norton's I have because I like the hard feel of the kuromaku.

I'm not trying to be a smart a** here, but it seems to me that the difference in the final
edge depends on the final finishing stone....not on what you used to get to the
final finisher. If you did it right, all traces of the 1-2-4-8 (or whatever) progression are
    polished out by the finisher.

The differences between the various progressions have to do with ease, speed,
consistency and personal preference. The finished edge comes off the finisher.

    Right?

That is mostly correct. I still do sometimes shave off an 8K edge. An 8K edge on an older Sheffield can be a thing of beauty.
