The BTC one looks like the orignal Stamp on the Paper Box was just removed and glued directly to the stone. Dont really think its a fake stone....

Iam doing hard on Coticules with identifying layers but in many cases Old Rock stones do have a very identical look, not all because here also different layers have been mined and sold under that Trademark or from that Mine under a different Trademark

Possible the box started to fall apart, so someone glued the stamp on to identify it?


It seems that was kinda the norm, the rocks were cut, then sold to different companies to put they're labels on. Seems like a very deep rabbit hole, trying to track it all down. Interesting for sure. Your research is much appreciated and I hope to help at some point.

I was curious about the coticule in the first picture from this thread. It was purchased at the same time as the other two. They were all bought before I really knew anything.

Old Rock had a label on the blue side that was easily removed. Deep Rock had a shiny/glossy label that is very difficult to remove. Not that you would try to remove them, but in honing when the label gets wet the Old Rock would tend to wash off, the Deep Rock never. An interesting point regarding that, old barbers in their 70s told me in the 1980s that the yellow side is for honing, not the blue side. That is 'only' for supporting the fragile yellow. The fact that Old Rock and Deep Rock pasted the labels on the dark side of the hone proves the contention of the old barbers. It was only in recent years that the Belgian Blue became known as a viable hone, albeit not as fast or fine as the yellow coticule.
