Yellow/green Escher?
From what I've found and read, this would be a yellow/green is that correct? I photographed it next to another Escher and a coti, for color reference.
Can I lap the backside and use it? Would it be worth it?
Thanks in advance y'all!

Yes, I would lap both sides. You might find that one side works better than the other.

Looks like it might be a Thuringian hone. I would only call it an Escher if it carries an Escher label.

Its a twotoned thuringian for sure, but if it's an Escher no one knows.
I find that the green layer works best in my hones, but the dark blue one is also very, very good.
The gelb-grün aka yellow-green, doesn't say so much of the color. It's the name of the layer where the stone was extracted.
Later it became the finest quality mark by vendors, like Escher.
The label, doesn't give the hone any quality. Yes Eschers are known and a bit hyped, but many German vendors where great.
Before the First World War, it was forbidden for the miners to sell hones directly. They should sell throu retailers like Escher.
After the war mines could sell there own hones, and it almost killed Escher. Escher bought some mines and survived, but perhaps some of the best hones where no longer in their grasps.
So don't worry that it's missing the Escher label. It could be a much better hone.
This is some of mine, the one on the left, is much like yours. Great hone!

Yellow/green Escher?
Thank you kelbro and Kristian. I agree Kristian a rock is a rock regardless of its label. There is no way Escher could control nature nor do I think they took the time to test every stone to guarantee they were the best.
Kees they are private label Eschers, one is a B.T.Co which took over from Escher. The other is a Rochester Razor Hone. Same mine, same saws, probably same workers so yeah it's an Escher. It just thankfully doesn't have the bottom label so I can lap both sides, and get the most out of my stone.

Not all Thurigians are Eschers, but all Eschers are Thurigians Tc

I dare to differ. AFAIK Escher was one of the companies that sold hones from the Thuringian quarries/mines. So Escher is a brand of Thuringian hones, not more and not less. I don't think you should call a Thuringian hone an Escher just because it looks like an Escher hone.

From my research (when I figure out how to post a link, I will), they came from Escher. I'm not worried about having a label. So no point in going back and forth on opinions. Not why I created the thread. I do appreciate the input tho.

Yellow/green Escher?
Interesting is the BTC one, actually i can assure you that the BTC was never glues like that on a stone....
Did you do that youreself ? Or was ist already glued ? Talking about possible fake stones for me this would be an example i would never buy it in this condition not having the stone in my hand....Last edited by doorsch; 08-01-2017 at 08:45 AM.

No I bought it that way. They were bought out of a collection. The gentleman said he'd had the stones since the late 50s early 60s. I was wondering about that after I looked at your pictures. Is it possible people were making fake stones way back when? It's an odd size as well, 7x1 3/8x5/8.
Thank you for the link to your YouTube, watched quite a few before I went to sleep. Quick question, can you tell a old rock/deep rock by sight? Or do you need the box?
