They're all great Hones. I myself would love to try one of the ruby hones I've been searching for one for awhile

I also disagree with the other posters I believe the little square one is an Arkansas stone a white washita to be exact. The best way to tell is shine a flashlight directly on it an see if it's slightly transparent.

Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Previous owner actually scratched on the edge. "Top/Dry" and "Bottom" I think I'll lap it with wet paper and rub I n in some Vaseline as per the instructions.

Noooooooooo. You should let it be unless it is damaged. Not all barbers hones can survive lapping. Wash and go!

Yes it is translucent Ks. Thanks for your good eye. I wonder if it's ok to pop the stone out of the box, I've read somewhere that it might be glued. Tough to lap in the box
Some good reading here... link from JimmyHAD above is great ...and I downloaded the Essay on Honing by Napoleon LeBlank 1895. Find it here in the SRP Wiki ....

Haha ok ok! But the instructions say to lap "after a few years if too smooth".

You need to decide if it's too smooth first, plus if you make it less smooth it may take a lot of bad shaves to get it back to really smooth.

Congratulations sir thanks for sharing, the Fernsler is a unique vintage barber hone. Please be careful with storage and handling It is light in weight because of a micro crystalline wax base.

Use dry or with lather, wash off lather when done. 10 to 20 light laps will refresh the edge back to it's previous state. This is not an aggressive cutter compared to the 00 Frictionite. What to see?
