Use dry or with lather, wash off lather when done. 10 to 20 light laps will refresh the edge back to it's previous state. This is not an aggressive cutter compared to the 00 Frictionite. What to see?

We frequently see this advice about not lapping barber hones. No doubt lapping a BH can turn out badly. All I can go on is my experience. I've lapped and re-hydrated two Ruby's and they came out fine. The vaseline did them a world of good. For that matter of the 60+ barber hones I've lapped the only one that reacted poorly was a Sears Craftsman and it was already in pretty dubious shape. I will say this: lapping most barber hones is not a lot of fun. If you do decide to lap it use a high grit (I usually use a 600 grit DMT) do it under a constant stream of cold water and be gentle.
