That banding is curious. I have a labelled Lorraine stone (no apparent relation to where I am located) that does not resemble it. Tendency with the latter in my example is towards white inclusions, and it is more porous. Although of a different color, I'm thinking more along the lines of a wood-grained or hybrid coticule here. Hybrid BBW?

Reminds me of a La Lorraine, but I'm not quite sure, there's some difference that makes me doubt that it is a Lorraine, the relief mostly

Btw, what's the use of a La Lorraine, is it a finishing stone?

Should have clarified... Just running your finger across no, a blade yes but it isn't giving off any random nastiness. The side where the swirling is almost like damascus it is so complex across the surface it almost feels like you are dragging the blade over a corrugated surface but it isn't doing harm. The other side it is more separated vs so enmeshed with each other. It's strange, it seems outright too hard to be a GW.

Lorraine? I have autoslurrying ones I use after the bevel set to delete scratches and pull to a point where I switch off to a slow cutting fine coti. I'm sure you can implement it different ways depending on how firm your example is. It is a really useful stone

I sort of treat it like a fancy-pants BBW.

Here are some surface shots magnified. Going to slurry it with something harder than itself later for some tests to see how that is. I have no shortage of blades to test on it atm so I will see what's what.
