Thanked: 3795Before you bother with the Vermio, have you ever tried one of the Chinese PHIGs?

Thanked: 3795Another option would be the slate hones sold by the ebay seller AJ--I don't remember the complete name but someone here should be able to recall it He sells three hones. The two that are not Dragon's Tongue would be viable alternatives to the Vermio, but the black one is more fine than the purple one.

I would give a PHIG a try if not for the possible shipping costs where you are.
I am at 50/50 results. Still cheap without shipping costs.

Thanks everyone for the tips and advice.
I have tried to find the Chinese PHIG but cannot seem to track any down. Would anyone know a good source for them? Everything I have found on eBay is coming from the UK with really high shipping.
Are the PHIGs much better than the Vermio? The Zulu Grey is my only current natural hone so they all basically new to me.

Thanked: 557I think the Zulu grey and Vermio produce similar results. Both appear to be very good finishers.

Thanked: 292In the USA, Chinese Guangxi hones can be purchased from Woodcraft. However, since they are selling hones to sharpen woodworking tools, you may or may not get a hone suitable for finishing razors. I have one that hones around the 12K level, the another is probably around 8-10K. Neither is as good as my Vermio.

If I can't find a PHIG with decent shipping I'll probably go with the Vermio.

The more I think about it if you are deployed in Korea I would stay away from a PHIG from China.
Maybe try to get leave and go to Japan to find a JNAT. A memory of being deployed in that part of the world. How do the Koreans react to Japan given their history?
If you get deployed in Greece get a Vermio.
