Hard to tell. Maybe a good scrubbin with a brush n some degreaser, or Dawn dish soap.

Thanked: 3215Yea, that is a “Dirty Stone”.
No, really too dirty to ID.
Soak in a 50% solution of Simple Green and hot water for a day or two. Or blast with oven cleaner and scrub with a stiff brush or scotch brite then soak in degreaser.
I have had good luck recently with Awsome cleaner from the 99cent store for soaking stone or degreasing metal parts.
I buy a lot of stones that look like that, most are clunkers or knife stones, but sometimes… you find gems.
Post a pic cleaned up.

Thanked: 315Yeah, I would avoid the dishwasher and just scrub with dish soap if you don’t have any stronger cleaners. If you lap it that will be removing some of the crud near the surface anyway. That is not to say it will not need cleaning though.
Even if it is just a nice sharpening stone for knives, it would be worth hat you paid.
Good luck.- Joshua

I think the heat could be an issue in the dishwasher. But I don't really know about these things. I'd go with what Euclid440 has to say. He is one of the Stone Gurus of this site.

Thanked: 246No no, don't put it in the dishwasher. Simple Green is the way to go. I have cleaned a LOT of stones with a Simple Green soak, it works very well.
