Again, this thread is simply addresses whether people in the past used convex hones. It is not here to address the technical claims of honing in said fashion. No one is pushing the issue of technical claims but you.

Thinning the shoulder of the bevel is easily done by honing with a little more torque than normal on a flat stone. You simply don't need a convex hone

I mean, I get that there can be value in lost arts. Hell, look at us shaving with straight razors for example. I also understand the point about how they did actually do it and someone isn't just making it up.
You know what else they used to actually do? Crap in a hole in the ground, carry water from the river, blood let, burn witches, believe the world is flat...just a few examples. Sometimes we don't still.do things for a reason.
