Thanked: 52Seraphim...
Any chance next time you sharpen a razor with the film you could snap some pics and post the way your setups look...
that would be awesome.

Looks great--$3.50 for 8.5"x11"! Only thing is they're PSA--is that hard to get perfectly flat on glass w/o a roller or no? Also, they don't have 3 um--would jumping from 5 to 1 work?

Anyone UK side wants to try this stuff I have some spare sheets after buying the 5 packs of 3 and 1um. Worked out at £7.50 a sheet with the vat and shipping so that's what I'll let it go for. PM if interested.

Score!
A friend at a very large nearby technical school just contacted me to let me know that he found a very dusty box which contained a fiber termination kit. The kit had several sheets of varying grades of film in it. I'll have some in my hands tonight, since no one is using/needing the film they have.
Gotta go find a small sheet of glass and some rubber feet.
Update:
I got home to find six sheets of lapping film waiting for me. Unfortunately, there's a gap in the sizes which may prevent me from using them. I received 2 sheets each of 15um, 3um and .3um. Looks like I'll need to try to find at least some 5um before I can really plan to try to use these.Last edited by Strapped-4-Cache; 03-12-2009 at 01:52 PM. Reason: Update

Okay, I've officially joined the party! Picked up a 9x6 piece of plate glass from a glass shop ($10)--they even threw in rubber feet for free--and ordered the 6,3,1,0.5um diamond film from PSIDragon (type A). Just waiting on the films. Then I can "discipline" my TI!
Does anyone know how long they usually take before they ship?

Thanked: 3795Oh heck. I've just ordered some to give it a try. At least it's cheaper than a set of Shaptons!
So Seraphim, just how many shares of stock do you own in this stuff?
By the way, if you glue a set of them to some rocks, I'm sure Jimmy will buy a full set too!Last edited by Utopian; 03-14-2009 at 05:13 AM.

Looks like you're right. I've had a Temperite that I found over a year ago that is in need of new scales because the originals shrunk. Shame, because the scales are a nice, clear amber color. With a change in jobs and personal time at a premium I haven't had time to work on it. I figured it couldn't hurt to try improving the edge since it appeared to have a decent edge at one time.
I spent just a short time progressing through the grits and was amazed that I was able to get a shave-ready edge on this thing. If the third pin in the scales didn't prevent the razor from opening to 270* instead of just 180* I'd take it for a test drive tomorrow morning.
For someone that's never attempted honing before I was pretty surprised at how quickly the edge developed.
I went to work on a DA that I just received from Stamps222 full of confidence, but found that getting and edge on that razor will take a bit more time. Still, it's something I can work on at my desk during my lunch breaks if I want. A footed glass bed and the sheets take up little space, and are extremely portable.
Thanks for posting the information for this alternative to traditional hones. I may never have had the financial ability to try my hand at it any other way.
