This is an enjoyable thread to read.

I'm going to have to find some unknown hone so I can join.

I'll have to check out eBay.

Olivia, have you identified the stone in the very first picture of this thread? I have one exactly like it. I've lapped it but haven't used it yet. Thanks

    I use it occasionally.
Between setting the bevel and starting to polish its quite nice.

    I got my first X-hone (I think).

I have seen a few pink hones in the archives. This one has an irregular pink appearance that says "natural stone" to me. It is thin like a barber hone, but I haven't seen a pink barber hone and didn't manage to find one in the archives. Dimensions are 6" x 2" x 1/4"

Previously used with oil. Very thirsty. No box. Medium. 222x38x33mm. I think it's some Norton India.

    Mine doesn't absorb any water.

'Very porous' would have been a more apt description. Mine doesn't absorb water yet either, but it holds unbelievable amounts of oil and sucks in solvents at an amazing rate.

After alternate rigourous brushing with ordinary detergent, soaking a few nights in enzymous washing powder solution, and sweating in a hot oven, the last rinses with dry cleaning naphtha and ammonia still gave me this:

    You hit a pipeline, LOL
Don't think mine will do the same. I've been lapping off quite something cause it came pretty dished. The surface is dry and not very porous actually.

Crichton of course! Bring them on.

Wondering what Pyment's pink up there could be.
    I'd think its man made.
    Pyment did you lap it?

Mine doesn't seem to be very porous. It was fairly easy to lap and appears to be a fairly fast cutter. After the suggestion to use after a bevel was made, it did bring the edge to a level that was easy to finish on a Thuringian.
