I'd agree with Ron. I'm NO expert, but when I hear "barber hone" I don't think of the little dished out numbers that were primarily intended for use with a DE blade. I think of a 2-4 x 6-8 inch hones like are pictured here.

Mine was soaked in oil when i first aquired it.
