Gary, did you see the grit comparison PDF here ? Note that the Japanese 5k is comparable to the Norton 8K. Now the only example is the Shapton Pro so we don't know about the Naniwa but I bet, being that they are also Japanese mfg, that they are the same.
So that explained why I really liked the feel of the Shapton 2K. It is equivalent to the Norton 4k. So I would do pyramids on the Shap pro 5/8 and feel like it was taking forever and it was compared to the Norton 4/8. Had I been using the Shap pro 2/5 in a pyramid I would have been doing the same thing.
I sent my Shap pros to a friend who wanted to try them out and so I can't test this theory for a couple of more weeks until I get them back but I am pretty sure I am correct ...... If the PDF is correct ..... so go by the grit chart and adjust your progression and you may find that you like the Naniwa's feel and results as much as the Nortons.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
