    Default One more Stone

If you could have just one more stone above your 8000, what would it be? I know this may be beaten to death but I need to add just one more to my 1000-4000-8000 Shapton Glass stones to get the right edge. I don't want to use a series of diamond paste though I wouldn't rule it out. I am looking at Shapton, Kityama, Naniwa Super Stone or inexpensive Chinese in 12000 to 16000. Please give me your personal choice and why you feel this way. Thanks for taking the time.

Wish I could help you. I've had to get one of each and I still ain't got it figured out.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I believe the correct answer is All/Any of the above.

I personally want the Naniwa Super 10K, but since you have the Shaptons already, why not keep with them?

Yep had the 16 shapton nice fit. A .5 micron diamond spray follow is still a good idea to real set a polish.

Close your eyes and pic one!!! Then later on when you save up some more money do it again I have CHK 12k then crom-ox on leather and love it. Its a cheap option and works great for many of us.

Big +1 for that. I can shave very comfortably off of my 16k shapton, but when I follow it up with a .5 micron paste (I'm using chrome oxide) I get a beautiful mirror smooth bevel. As cheaply as you can make or buy a pasted strop or pasted bench hone, I don't know why anyone would want to leave it out of the rotation.

Well, only one post 8k hone?

    I have:

    A Superstone 10k
A very tiny slate (Thuringian?) 10k
    A Chinese 12k
    A Swaty
    I´ve got a Shapton 16k
    and I have a Frankonian

    still I want one more.
    I want a japanese natural.
It does not have to be a Nakyama, there are others.
But it has to be the ultimate finish with the japanese honing sensation.
To get there I am considering to sell my Swaty and my Sweet 16 right now

btw. The Superstone 10k I don´t see him as a ultra finisher.
It is the very most polishing stone I have
and HHT can be performed right after it,
    even though not totally satisfactory
but that´s what pastes and leathers are for.
Still you could shave right off the stone.
I use it as a substitute for an Escher I don´t have
and jump to every finishing hone I desire.

The Frankonian is the only hone I actually use without pasting afterwards at the moment

Wow... so many options, I guess I will stick to the Shapton (many of you suggested that) 16k for now and then who knows? Thanks again guys for your input, it is appreciated.

Given a choice from those listed I'd go with the Naniwa SS, I have no love for the Shapton 16k. But I'm saving my last stone slot for a Japanese natural.
