Yup, I use an old carb stone about 500 to 600 grit to finish lap most of my higher grit stones including barber hones (puts a nice finish on those). No issue with contamination because the carb is much harder than the other stone.

In any event, if the crab does release grits, they are ground into smaller bits anyway... not a problem.
