I have a Surgical Black Arkansas and a Translucent on the way. I got 12x3x1 Sugical Black and a 8x3x1 trans, I spoke to the guy that owns www.hallsproedge.com
Richard Hall who is a very nice guy btw. We talked about honing and hones for about an hour, and while we talked, he hand picked two hones for me. You know me, how could I resist. I learned some stuff, and so did he. I'm excited to play around with both of these hones, not only str8's, but knives as well. Nice and thick, and you can use both sides...We have assumed control !

Did Mr. Hall say anything about lapping? (Just curious.)

It appeals to me to, If they work out and are fun to play with, I will buy some in bulk, and pass the saving on if anyone is interested....

Thanked: 132Update:
Well, disappointingly, this pretty stone, is not the finisher i was hoping for...as a matter of fact, it would probably rate grit-wise, between a white hard and a surgical black arkansas. It also, doesnt have as high a density, as the surgical black, which i'm thinking should have given me a clue initially. Live and learn, eh?
Its a pretty stone, so it will stay in my honing progression; just not where i'd hoped.
Thanks,
Mac
