Thanked: 96I'd listen to these folks. I can't identify hones by eye for crap, but that looks enough like an escher to me I'd take their word for it and eschers are one of the few naturals I know of that warn against use of oil (The only other stone I know of that looks similar to an escher to me are certain shards of black arkansas and those prefer oil).
Hell, list it in classifieds for 75% of what it's worth if it is a thuringian as an "unknown stone" and see if someone buys it.

Hi Mac, one just came up on ebay Germany. Item # 160384297889. Looks like recent mfg or very NOS.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Is the colour rendition in the photo's accurate? My monitor is showing a black hone, and if that is the case, it may come from Saxony. Black hones from this area have a very long history of use.
Kindest regards,
Alex

Thanked: 96Wow, I've seen eschers going for less than that. Someone's gonna be ****ed if it arrives and it turns out it really isn't Thuringian.

This old thread seems to be one of only two discussions I can find online about the old Faso German Water Hone. I recently picked one up as NOS--a little larger than the one posted above, but with the same label--and was highly impressed with the edge it gave to my favorite W&B--sharp, smooth, and brilliantly polished. Can anyone tell me more about the brand?
Thanx,
Christopher
