Thanked: 2Will this work as a 1st hone?
Hey all! I just picked this up on Ebay and was wondering if this will be good enough as a 1st hone or if I just bought something for my kitchen knives. If it'll work, all I need to do is find a strop and then I'll be in business!

The dish in that stone as well as the label suggests its made for safety razor blades.

Does it have a long shallow V shaped hollow on it?
It looks like it does and if so it looks like it was intended
to touch up older double edge blades. I think that is
what the picture is showing.
The bottom might be flat and work on a str8 if it
is big enough.
Let us know when you get it.

Thanked: 2I didn't notice it at first, but yeah, the picture does show a V down the middle. I picked up my first straight at an antique store ( ) so I'll give it a shot on the bottom if it's flat.

Thanked: 96Read the box in the pics, friend.
It has directions for both SE/DE and straight use... and yes, straight use is to use the bottom. It's pretty small for a straight razor, but it should work until you feel the need to upgrade and you can't argue with that price. Good luck.

Thanked: 2Now I feel silly. Thanks for pointing that out. Now all I need to get is a strop!
