Second coticule- wow
I've been fortunate to acquire "No. 24" (natural combo) reviewed at Welcome to Coticule.be - home of the famous Belgian Coticule Whetstone. I've been using a coticule for about 10 months, this is my second one.
When folks talk about these stones being unique, they are not kidding! No. 24 is more translucent, and the slurry is more "creamy" vs. my first. When used with just water, I think a little more slurry is released making the water a bit more viscous (noticeable after about 100 laps)--must be a softer stone. I get great feedback when using just water on this one (not so much on my first)-- after 100 laps the blade just glides across the top, but still "sticks" to the hone, enabling me to really go with light pressure with confidence.
I touched up 2 razors, a Dovo full hollow, and a Wacker 1/4 hollow yesterday, and just had a fantastic shave with the Wacker today. I'm able to get a crisper edge with this hone.
I bought my first coticule because the thought of a single hone was appealing... now I have two... and I wonder what another one would be like... help....

That's the problem w/ HAD!
My 8x3 has those exact translucent patterns on it--except mine are smaller (I think there are 3 of them). They're great stones & amazingly versatile. Enjoy!

About a 6" x 2". And I could hone a pocket knife on the slurry stone Ardennes shipped with it!

Thanked: 81I just received a 6 X 2 from Howard. The edge really does seem to come alive after proper stropping as it says on coticule.be. Other finishers leave a sharper edge after use, but the coticule seems to "age" a bit.

Thanked: 11I'm not certain exactly how it occurs, but something about the nearly round garnets leaves a smoother and less toothy edge, for all it's sufficiently sharp.
It would be interesting to strop after coticule and after various other finishers, and test the results. I'm suspecting the coticule would do well.
