Default Chosera 5000 Compared to Norton 8000?

How does the Chosera 5000 compare with the Norton 8000 as far as grit rating? It seems that the grit rating system is different between the Naniwa and Norton stones but I can't find exact numbers? Would it be feasible to move to a finishing stone such as an Escher after the Chosera 5000 or is that too big of a jump? The 10,000 is a bit out of my reach at the moment. Any input is greatly appreciated!

I am playing around with the entire Chosera line right now. What I am finding is that they are very similar to the Super Stones. I am using either the 3K or 5K and then going to the 8K and then to my finishing stones. By the way, the Chosera 10K is not a bad finishing stone either.

Thanks Lynn! I'll be interested to hear about your results. Your comment about the Chosera 10K brings me to another question...Would that make my Escher unnecessary?....I love my Escher and don't want to offend her!

if you read what Lyn said you will understnad answer to you question is to go from 5000 to escher is not advisable. You may go after 10k to esher that will be ok.hope this helps

Thanks, that clears things up for me. I'm looking forward to getting the Naniwa stones and giving them a try!

Due to finances I have the 1k 3k 5k Nani's and an escher, Nakayama and Swaty. I agree. Going 5k to any one of these is a schlep, but it is possible. In hind sight I probably would've/should've bought 1k 5k 8k.

The fastest way to get it done is I pyramid the 3k and 5k, then do a bunch on the 5k real light, then either go to the Jnat with heavy slurry for a while (slurry breaks down, and I water it down some as I go) or I pyramid the Swaty with one of the two naturals because the Swaty is faster. Once again it takes quite a while and I really want the 8k but it is possible if you are very patient.

JimmyHAD I think does the same (pyramids 3k and 5k), this is where I got the idea from. However after speaking with him he also recommended me to the 8k so that should be my next stone. (if I don't blow another paycheck on a natural or razor)

EDIT: Sorry for the ramble my main point is this:
The Nani 8k is still very advisable.

Thanks Khaos, I'll eventually fill in the missing stones. Buying the whole lineup at once sure would thin the wallet! Maybe I'll sell a few razors to finance the stones....Anyone need a razor?

I feel you pain that is why I am simply patient until I can afford an 8k
