+1 on the OCD. I used to put my shaptons in the dish drainer and let them air dry. As soon as I got the naniwas I started to rinse them off and towel dry them as soon as I'm done, separate paper towels for each grit. Now I do that with all of my stones except the nortons.

Some of us have to work for a living.
I followed that thread closely at the time. I thought Harrelson should have done something a lot more quickly than he did. Chris could have gotten another plate IIRC but he was so turned off by the whole experience that he decided to opt for the refund. If your DMT is ruined your out fifty bucks while a GDLP is like 5 DMTs in cost. I've been lucky in that all of my plates are still going strong .... knocking on wood.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 2591I use a 120 DMT for major lapping, followed by 320 Sandpaper to smooth out the surface. I do not have a 325 dmt, so I just wrap the sandpaper on the 120 DMT and go from there. The sandpaper piece lasts for a long time too.

Sham-
I recently bought a 10" DMT duosharp for lapping (and I guess coarse work if I need it.
I obviously am a junior member and have only lapped 3 nanis, a thury, a jnat, a swaty and some slate on it, by my opinion of it is quite good. Everything it just chews through. (the swaty it is not as fast but I think that is reasonable lol) They now make a continuous 10x4 but I think it is more expensive.
Also for arguments sake, 8x2.75= 22 sq inches, and 10x4= 40 sq inches so even if half the surface is holes (which it isn't- I can't tell you exactly how much it is but I can prove geometrically it is not half) you still have at least the same number of diamonds or more, but a nice big plate.
Also it has a plastic core so it is much lighter, (I do not think this makes it much less stiff- moment of inertia and all that jazz, just look at an i-beam if you need proof) I think the holes help with stiction (even the DGLP has an interrupted surface), and you have the benefit of two grits for the price of one.
Here was my lengthy review and observations:
http://straightrazorpalace.com/hones...ing-plate.html
I had no trouble holding it in my hand, and it has a rubber mat it comes with the works well. I don't know about stone holders or any of that. I can see why a smaller hone would be nice but honestly I think having a nice big surface to work with is helpful to me. YMMV. I use mine like a washboard. Same as honing. More area per stroke=faster work.Last edited by khaos; 01-14-2010 at 10:06 PM.
