Oh man, so I took that knife I sharpened on this coti, gave it a few swipes on my home-made Cro-Ox balsa strop... I can shave with it (not terribly comfortable but possible!). Also took my practice fixer upper razor with a bevel from a 1k to it for about 15 mins, can shave too! (given a little pull, but a big improvement from where it started!) I LOVE this little thing! Now I want one just for kitchen cutlery too... oh my... this is how people get HAD isn't it?

Yes, it is. I keep a small bout at work in my locker, a piece of BBW and a piece of Coti. I sharpen my work knife with them. I work in a Tool and Parts situation. so, it's mostly desk work, but some shipping, receiving, and packaging....and yes, those lines are impurities and would make it Standard grade. I can give you some tests to try if you like, PM me....

Patches, that is a very attractive coticule, and one to hang on to! The lines are manganese inclusions. I find that when using the BBW side I get a MUCH sharper edge without slurry than with it-think the loose garnet particles in the blue slurry might actually round the edge a little. After using the BBW side, I finish on the coticule with just water, and get good results. Don't forget to strop with linen prior to leather, it makes a huge difference in the blade sharpness, for me at least. Try the HHT before and after linen, to confirm. Congratulations on getting a remarkably nice coticule!
