Thanked: 0Im still a relative newbie to straights, as for razors i honed a [gulp] gd 200 which was meant to be shave ready, i did 50 laps on this stone with no slurry required if anything it made the razor stick a bit, just throw the water on and off you go.
No lapping or chamfering was required as the stone already has this done and when honing it felt very level no problems at all.
The edge itself became much smoother and sharper, oddly it felt less sharp but dragging it across the nail it dug in very fast, really surprised me.
As stones go im very happy with it, bit on the small side width wise but im used to sharpening knives in such a manner, price wise you're pretty much laughing.
Hope that gives you what you're after.
Oh i do have a 5/8 tudor rose in fine cocobolo coming from razurpur, so that then will give me a much better idea.Last edited by Hux; 03-13-2010 at 06:40 PM.

I bought just his 8k stone early on, but do not consider myself a honemeister. it is smaller than a Norton hone, marked made in China, white and when lapped, seems to do the job. I successfully brought up my first honing attempt up to shave readiness using this hone, along with Norton 1k/4k and the Chineese 12k.
If there is a guru out there who has the creds to evaluate this hone, I'll send it to him to evaluate.

I purchased a chinese water stone from that guy on ebay. The stone is very nice, it was lapped and edges were beveled and it took about a week to get to me.

FWIW, I just did an ebay search for his stones. I can get an 8x2 from him in Poland for $40 USD shipped. OTOH, I can get the 8x2 from Woodcraft for $20 + whatever shipping is and if the stone has any problems, inclusions or whatever, it is an easy return or exchange. Woodcraft gets $35 for the 8x3. I bought the 8x2 a year or two ago. Haven't used it much but it has been alright when I have used it.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
