    I'm pretty sure his Chinese Polishing hone is the same as the one at Woodcraft: Natural Polishing Water Stone - Woodcraft.com

    I have no idea what the 5 or 8k hones are. With Naniwas, I go 1 5 8 finisher, but I don't know if that would work with these. These days, I'm suspicious of cheap hones, but my first bevel setter was a King 1k (also from woodcraft) for $20 and it worked very well, so you never know.

    My final thought is that hones are not a place to skimp. Bad hones, even with awesome razors and an awesome honer, will likely have bad edges. Not to mention good hones really aren't that expensive, especially when you consider how much use you'll get out of them. We are talking less than $.01 for every razor you hone.
