HSB hone
I recently bought an old razor hone in really good condition. I am hoping someone here can tell me something about it. It is two sided. It is marked
HSB & Co,
OVB
Our Very Best
No,1000

Hibbard, Spencer & Bartlett, OVB = Our very best. They made pocket knives, razors and other cutlery way back when. Someone with Goins will be along with the particulars no doubt.

Thanks for the reply Jimmy, I was hoping for more input but that helps a lot. The hone was filthy when I got it but it cleaned up nice and is nice and flat. Not much wear at all. Does the No 1000 mean anything? Mack

Dunno Mackie but it sure looks like a barber hone to me. I bet it will work well for touching up an edge. If you google the company name there is some info on them here and there and some reprint catalogs for sale. Whether they have anything on their hones in them I don't know. They were a high quality company I know that from their pocket knives.
