2 sided Escher - is there such a stone?
I recently acquired a new Escher, which prior to lapping looked like any other grey Escher, although the typical red box has a black sticker which very faintly reads 'Barber's delight.'
One side had a couple of ruts, the other I assumed was the side to be used. After lapping both sides, one is grey with a few tiny black speckles and a couple of feint veins, the other a dark grey, almost dark blue colour.
Is there any chance this is like a natural coti combo? I have heard of blue Eschers - perhaps they are from the same quarry that Escher mined as a separate vein?
I have not a clue, I will post pics tomorrow. In the mean time I am curious to know more about this rock.

Yes, I have a slurry stone that is natural blue/green one side and yellow/green on the other. I cannot post a photo as I am at work. I have seen naturals in an Escher a couple of times. I've never owned one. If you tell me that you got it in a thrift store for $3.99 I'll be very frustrated.

Jimmy, I can not confirm your worst suspicions, for I paid considerably more for it, with the belief that it was a regular Escher. I haven't before seen a Barber's delight edition though.
Would you happen to know if the different colours have different honing properties, and would you say this is a rare stone?

Again, I am at work so IIRC, my yellow/green barber's delight is 2"x5 7/8"x3/4" . There are subtle differences between the colors IME but I haven't run into one that wasn't a great finisher yet. I've only messed with 7 of them though. Others have more experience with more stones. I would say your barber's delight ought to be first rate if it is the real deal.

Yup, many Eschers combine different shades in one stone. Especially the YG ones often have a darker and slightly bluer reverse. On this side, tiny dark spots are not unusual.
Barber's Delight was a special size in the best quality according to this Pike catalogue:

Here are some shots of the hone as promised. The first shows the grey side, the second the blue. That black sticker on the front of the box says 'Barber's Delight' my apologies for the flash.
One side is a grey or a yellow green Echer? Which type, and how do you recommend this is to be used, laps etc?
Regards

Can you see a transition between the colors when looking at the stone from the side ?

Jimmy
I can see a transition, however it is very hard to capture with the camera on my mobile phone.
